If you design roads, rail, utilities or industrial facilities in Bentley MicroStation, navigating huge models just got easier. On 3 August 2026, 3Dconnexion announced a new, fully optimised SpaceMouse integration for MicroStation, developed together with Bentley Systems and available from MicroStation 2026. Here's what it means for Australian infrastructure teams, and how to get it working.

What's new

3Dconnexion and Bentley worked together on a navigation integration built specifically for the very large, data-heavy models MicroStation users work with every day. The aim is that navigation stays smooth and precise whatever the size of the model, so you can orbit, pan and zoom through a full corridor or plant model without the view stuttering or jumping.

According to 3Dconnexion, MicroStation users with a SpaceMouse get:

  • Smooth, real-time navigation, even in complex models
  • Full 6DoF control: pan, zoom and rotate at the same time with one hand
  • Adjustable navigation behaviour to suit how you work
  • MicroStation tools on the device buttons, so common commands are a press away

Why it matters for infrastructure work

Infrastructure models are big. A single project can combine terrain, alignments, structures and services across kilometres. Reviewing geometry and checking clashes and spatial relationships means constant moving around the model, which is exactly the repetitive mouse work that slows people down and strains wrists and shoulders.

With a SpaceMouse, one hand looks after navigation while the other selects and edits with the mouse. 3Dconnexion says this two-handed way of working cuts repetitive strain while improving speed and accuracy. It's the same workflow CAD users in SOLIDWORKS, Inventor and Revit have relied on for years, now tuned for MicroStation.

How to get it

  1. Update to MicroStation 2026. The new integration is only available from this version.
  2. Install the latest 3Dconnexion driver (3DxWare 10) from 3Dconnexion's driver download page.
  3. Plug in or pair your SpaceMouse, open MicroStation, and adjust the navigation settings to taste.

If your organisation manages software centrally, ask IT to deploy both updates together.

Which SpaceMouse suits MicroStation users?

Pair any of them with a CadMouse Pro Wireless for the full two-handed setup. Still deciding? Read our 3Dconnexion buying guide or our 3Dconnexion FAQ.
